announce the

Oxford Fine Press Book Fair 2003

Once again, in conjunction with the Fine Press Book Association, the PBFA is organising the most successful fine press fair in the world:
the Oxford Fine Press Book Fair in Oxford, UK.
The Fair will be held on 1st and 2nd November 2003.

Admission Opening times

Admission by catalogue at the door on the day. Valid both days, it includes admission to all of the lectures on the second day. The catalogue is an illustrated, 48-page book, very well designed by Jeremy Greenwood and printed by Northend of Sheffield. It has continuing reference value. Admission price, including catalogue and lectures, £5 per person.

The Fair will be open

11am to 6pm on Saturday 1st November
10am to 5pm on Sunday 2nd November

Refreshments will be available, or you can bring an indoor picnic.

Exhibitors Location

The exhibitors include sixty private presses from the UK, the Americas, Russia, and Europe, as well as twenty-five dealers in fine press books, ten trade suppliers of fine printing materials, and related societies.

The fair will be held at Oxford Brookes University, Gipsy Lane, off Headington Road, Oxford, England.

Car parking is available at the venue, and also a few minutes' walk from the Fair, at Headington Hill Hall: at the north end of Gipsy Lane, turn left at the traffic lights (towards Oxford centre on the Headington Road), and take the second right into Headington Hill Hall.

The exhibition is also conveniently reached from Thornhill Park & Ride, to the east of Oxford, at the intersection of the A420 and eastern Bypass. Take the 300 bus towards Oxford town centre and alight at the bus stop on Headington Road at the top of Gipsy Lane (10 minutes). The venue is two minutes' walk from the bus stop, down Gipsy Lane on the right hand side.

By bus, the half-hourly no. 22 bus service from just outside the railway station on Park End Street and the no.2 or 2A from George Street outside the coach station (every 15 minutes) both reach Gipsy Lane for Oxford Brookes University within 20 minutes. Taxis are available from both stations but are only fractionally quicker.

By train, Oxford is served by Thames Express, First Great Western, Wales & West, Virgin Trains, and Central Trains (048457 484 950). For a small surcharge an 'Oxford add-on ticket' gives on day's unlimited city travel. Take the half-hourly 22 bus from the railway station to Gipsy Lane.

By coach, two express coaches from London each run at 20 minute intervals and offer a 90 minute journey for £8 day or next-day return. Each will drop and pick up at Gipsy Lane. The same operators run hourly from Heathrow and Gatwick airports at £12 and £19 return respectively. Return can be from the stop on the other side of Headington Rd or from Gloucester Green Coach Station. The Oxford Express (www.oxfordbus.co.uk) leaves London from Victoria Coach Station. The Oxford Tube (www.stagecoach-oxford.co.uk) leaves London from Grosvenor Square. Both pick up at several points including Marble Arch. Pay on coach. Take the 2 or 2A bus from George Street outside the coach station (every 15 minutes) to Gipsy Lane.

Lecture Programme
On the Sunday there will also be a programme of lectures by respected members of the fine press book community:
11 am : Nicholas and Frances McDowall will talk about their Old Stile Press
12 am : Martyn Ould: 'The best laid plans ...', the making of a fine press book from concept to delivery
